Well howdy!
Welcome to this blog focused on R.M. Schindler. Bear with me as I get started and work toward a critical mass of information when this site will hopefully be a useful reference. My goal is to annotate various factoids and opinions about Schindler from the literature and whatnot with the goal of having as much as I can document here. The tabs at the top represent various time periods and subject areas concerning Schindler's life and career. I will attempt to list facts sequentially with time, at least among the years.
Why do this? Having read (and reread) a number of tomes on Schindler, I've noticed disagreements on certain facts as well as misrepresentations that have turned into dogma. For example: When was he born? What was the socioeconomic status of his family? Why were the sleeping porches enclosed on the Lovell Beach House? I'm hoping this site will ultimately identify and clarify these disagreements and misunderstandings. And if a Schindler question ever comes up in Trivial Pursuit, I will own it.
Please let me know if you see any mistakes or want to point me toward a paper or book I missed. If this site proves to be useful to you, I appreciate acknowledgment and notification, the firewood of my burning desire to keep doing this.

ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog. Reading Esther McCoy's enchanting essay in her 5 CA Architects to prep for a class on CA Houses that will teach at Berkeley OLLI next winter, I learned of Schindler and Pueblo Ribera Court and wanted to see images in color. VoilĂ , I fount your site. A standing ovation to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting this up. I'm just learning about Schindler and this site has been great.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this site. According to ancestry.com, Franziska Hertl was born in 1863 and not 1859.
